Cloudflare has published security-audit-skill, an open-source skill for coding agents. Its page describes it as “a coding-agent skill for multi-phase security audits with independently verified, machine-readable findings”. It is released under the MIT licence. Last checked: 25 Oct 2026.
What it is
A “skill” is a packaged set of instructions that a coding agent can load to do a specific job. This one is for security audits: the agent works through the audit in several phases, and the findings it reports are checked independently and written in a format that other programs can read. That last part is useful if you want to feed the results into a tracker or a report instead of copying text by hand.
It is installed with the Skills CLI, using the command npx skills add. The repository shows 14 commits on its main branch, so treat it as a young project and read its documentation closely.
Who it is for
This is for developers who already work with coding agents and want help reviewing the security of a codebase. Security-minded software engineers, students learning application security and small teams without a dedicated security person may find it useful as a first pass. It does not replace a professional review for important systems.
What you need
- A coding agent whose model supports tool use and parallel sub-agents.
- Node.js, which the validators need.
- An operating-system-enforced sandbox if you want the audit to run the target code. The page lists this as no external networking, a sanitised environment, resource limits and restricted writes.
What to do
- Read the README on GitHub to understand the phases and the output format.
- Prepare a sandbox first, and only audit code that you own or have permission to test.
- Install the skill with
npx skills addas described in the README. - Run it on a small project first to see what the findings look like.
- Review each finding yourself before you change any code.
What to watch out for
The sandbox requirement is the main catch. According to the page, if you do not provide a sandbox, the leads stay marked needs_validation and the target code is not executed. So without a sandbox you get fewer confirmed findings.
The page does not state a version number or a cost for the skill itself. Running a coding agent may have its own cost, depending on the agent and model you use, which is outside this project. The repository shows a large star count, but we have not used that as a measure of quality. Also, an AI-assisted audit can miss problems, so do not treat a clean result as proof that the code is safe.
Source and verification
